In the framework of the celebrations of the International Day of the Educating City, on 3 December Setúbal received an IAEC delegation composed by its General Secretary, Marina Canals, Joan M. del Pozo (Girona University) and Angélica Satiro (Barcelona University) to deliver the training session ‘Educating City and Local Governance’.
The event was structured in 2 parts. The morning session targeted technical staff and elected members, while the afternoon part was dedicated to the community. The training included a conference by Joan M. del Pozo and a workshop delivered by Angélica Sátiro. The workshop focused on learning more about the potential of various local educating agents and on the strategies to follow to maximise synergies and improve local governance.
The main goal of the seminar was to deepen the commitment of the city with the principles of the Charter of Educating Cities. The training also contributed to increase the engagement of technical staff, city councillors and other local institutions’ managers.
In addition, on 4 December, there was a presentation of the local programme “Our District, Our City“. This project is running in 5 districts since 2012 and was one of the winning initiatives of the 2018 Educating Cities Award. The presentation was delivered by neighbours that take part in the programme, and they were also in charge of preparing the menu that was offerred to the training attendants.
The day ended with a visit to the districts that participate at the “Our District, Our City” programme.
