Granollers to host the 18th International Congress of Educating Cities from May 26 to 29, 2026
The city will become a global meeting point to promote more inclusive, participatory and innovative urban models, under the theme: "Education and Culture in the City: Community, Critical Thinking and Creativity".
From May 26 to 29, 2026, Granollers will become the epicenter of international debate on the future of cities as it hosts the 18th International Congress of Educating Cities. The event will revolve around three main thematic pillars — community, critical citizenship and creativity — with the aim of rethinking urban environments through an educational, inclusive and transformative lens.
Explore below the key themes that will guide the discussions, lectures and experience-sharing sessions of the congress, where cities from around the world will exchange good practices and strategies to transform urban life through education:
- City / Community: this first theme emphasizes the building of a shared “we” in increasingly diverse urban contexts. Initiatives that promote intercultural dialogue, social cohesion and the right to the city will be encouraged, embracing diversity as a source of richness and a collective challenge.
- Critical Citizenship: in response to misinformation, polarization and simplistic discourse, this second theme highlights the need to foster individuals with independent and responsible thinking. Actions will be proposed to strengthen active participation, critical thinking and local democracy.
- Creative Citizenship: the third theme positions creativity as an essential capacity to address current and future challenges. Educational, cultural and technological projects will be promoted to drive civic innovation and social capital, recognizing creativity as a transformative tool accessible to all.
With this vision, the congress aims to become a space for collective reflection and action to rethink cities as educational, inclusive and resilient spaces.
The call for experience submissions will open soon. Stay tuned!
