30-05-2024    Assembly   Congress

The General Assembly gathered in Curitiba approves, at the request of the Portuguese and Brazilian territorial networks, the incorporation of Portuguese as an official IAEC language with the support of the concerned networks for translations. After a transitional period, an evaluation will be conducted to assess the impact of incorporating this language on the income and expenditure balance, as well as the measures that need to be introduced to make it effective.

Formally, this change has been implemented as a modification of Article 36 of the IAEC Statutes, which specifies that the official languages are English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and that the use of these languages in different activities will depend on the number of participants/recipients and the available resources (human and economic). This modification has been accompanied by the signature of a collaboration agreement between the lusophone territorial networks and the IAEC, which will provide assistance to the Secretariat to ensure the quality of translations. This agreement establishes a three-year transition period.

Additionally, the Assembly approves the new IAEC Code of Ethics, developed in a participatory manner. The following explanatory video about the values that should guide the conduct of individuals involved in IAEC activities is shown:

Finally, a certificate of membership is given to member cities that have recently joined the International Association of Educating Cities.
