Do you know the IAEC Code of Ethics?

At the International Association of Educating Cities, we don’t just talk about principles — we practice them. Our Code of Ethics is not just another document stored on a website. It’s a living declaration of who we are, what we stand for, and how we act.

From the first paragraph, this Code clearly states its purpose: to define the identity of the IAEC and the behavior expected of all those who interact with it. The goal? To build a strong organizational culture, guided by values such as equality, inclusion, solidarity, sustainability, and democratic responsibility.

What is the Code for?

Its purposes include:

  • Defining the values that should represent us.
  • Creating a safe, respectful, and educating environment.
  • Providing guidance for complex decision-making.
  • Establishing clear policies for specific situations.

And what are those values?

They are many and deeply meaningful:

  • Equality and integrity, because everyone deserves equal respect.
  • Cultural diversity, seen as a source of creativity.
  • Solidarity and responsibility, from everyday life to global actions.
  • Democratic trust, with dialogue, participation, and transparency at the core.
  • Exemplarity and institutional loyalty, because every action reflects the association.
  • Sustainability, as an ethical commitment to the planet, social justice, and economic efficiency.

It’s not optional — it’s a commitment.

The Code of Ethics applies to all people linked to the IAEC, whether on an ongoing or occasional basis. That means you, too, are part of this shared commitment. Knowing it, applying it, and ensuring it is respected is everyone’s responsibility. And yes, you can also make suggestions or report any behavior that contradicts it.

Beyond values, the document includes specific policies on suppliers, institutional relations, gifts, sustainability in events, and protocols on abuse or complaints — all from an ethical and transparent perspective.

In short: if you’re part of IAEC, this Code is about you too.

Do you know it?
