SAO PAULO: Student-Empowered Cycle and Student-Empowered Participatory Work

Addressed to students from 12 to 14 years old (grades 7 to 9 in the Brazilian Education System), the Student-Empowered Cycle is an attempt to foster the construction of knowledge through curriculum projects committed to social action.

Through the Participatory Student-Empowered Projects, prepared and executed by the students with the help of a mentor teacher, students get involved in social life. Thus, it is promote their role as agents that can change social conditions and make them more just. Hence, students carried out and participated in actions, such as, for example, the restoration of city squares, maintenance of public spaces, cultural activities (theatre, dance, graffiti, etc.), the organisation of events and campaigns focused on certain issues (poverty, bullying, nutrition, etc.), amongst others.
