Tomar

© João Carvalho Tomar is a medium-size city in central Portugal beautifully located on the banks of the river Nabão. It spreads through an area of 351 km2. The municipality is composed of 16 parishes and it’s located in the district of Santarém, in the Ribatejo Province. Scattered throughout the town there are many interesting houses with Renaissance, Baroque and Romantic façades. The Convent of Christ, the city’s main monument, was declared World Heritage Site in 1983.
