Fagundes Varela

Located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, it is a city with an approximate population of 2,566 inhabitants (IBGE/2022). In 1888 a group of Italian immigrants settled in the lands where the city is located today, which in 1938 was renamed Fagundes Varela. It has a rich historical legacy that dates back to this Italian colonization in the region. Its cobbled streets and old buildings reflect this cultural heritage. The architectural heritage includes a variety of chapels. The local economy is based mainly on agriculture, highlighting the production of grapes and wines, as well as livestock.
