
Capital of the Cáceres, the city is located in the south-west of Spain, in Extremadura. The old city was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986, and is one of the most complete urban ensembles of the Middle Ages and Renaissance in the world. The city is the main commercial, administrative and economic center of the province. Its economy is based mainly on the services sector, tourism and construction, and, to a lesser extent, industry. It also hosts the University of Extremadura.
