The city has a population of 180,000 inhabitants distributed in a surface of 107,06 km². Nowadays, the main economic sector is industry, an specifically automotive industry. However, the service sector is becoming progressively more important. The Cathedral of Burgos was declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1984.
