Mérida

© Eigenes Werk (Wikimedia commons) Capital of the Spanish of region of Extremadura. Founded by the Romans, the old Emerita Augusta was capital of the Roman province of Lusitania which occupied the vast majority of the territory of the current Portugal. The archaeological complex of Mérida was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1993. Among the Roman heritage it is worth mentioning the Theatre as well as the bridge of the Guadiana River. Mérida is currently a city focused on tourism and administrative activities.
