Santa Cruz de Tenerife

© Antonio Tajuelo (Flickr) Capital of the Atlantic island of Tenerife and co-capital of the Spanish region of the Canary Islands. The city is located on the north-eastern coast of the island and is an important stop of the naval freight routes between the African, American and European continents. The economy is also based on tourism and on industry, specially on the refinery and chemical sectors.  The City renowned around the world as one of the carnival capitals. In 2015, The Unesco awarded the Anaga mountain range, located inland the city, with the title of Biosphere Reserve. The Anaga Mountain range has an Important Bird Protection Area.
