Osijek is the economic and cultural capital of the Croatian region of Slavonia. The city has a powerful industry, specifically focused on Chemicals, and is the main regional centre of food processing. The city has become a national tourist and gastronomic hub as a result of its rich cultural and historic heritage. Among its monuments, it is worth mentioning the Tvrđa (fortress) built in the 17th century by the Royal House of Habsburg.
