Portalegre is the capital city of the district of the same name, located in the region of Alentejo (Portugal), it is made out of 10 freguesías and covers an area of 447.14 square kilometres. Its unique landscape, the proximity to the natural park of Serra de São Mamede and its cultural heritage (house-museum of the poet José Régio, castles, and religious buildings, among others) stand out.  The town’s upholstery business, crafts and gastronomy are also of note.
