Coimbra

© François Philipp (Flickr) City of the Portuguese Central Region situated at the right bank of the Mondego River. The city has 2 cores: the old town, which occupies the highest part of the city in a hill, and the modern town on the shore of the river. Coimbra has around 140,000 inhabitants and it is a commercial and a university hub of great importance well connected by train and car. The University of Coimbra, one of the oldest of Europe, was declared World Heritage Site in 2013.
