Chaves

© Carlos Botelho (Wikimedia commons) City of the Northern Region of Portugal located at the bank of the River Tâmega and near the border with Spain. Chaves has a population of 43,667 inhabitants which live in a valley surrounded by mountains. As regards the cultural and historical heritage it is worth mentioning the roman bridge of Emperor Trajan, built in the 1st century. Chaves forms part of the Atlantic Axis, a cross-border country institution which rallies cities of Galicia and the North of Portugal.
